Introduce new additives to increase recycled PET resin grade

July 15, 2022
According to overseas media reports, at the recent global plastic environmental conference held in Detroit, United States, the American Clariant masterbatch company introduced new additives to improve the level of recycled PET resin.
According to reports, this new additive is the reactive additive CESA-Extend. The researchers said that the product can make long-chain branching of PET molecules, which can increase the intrinsic viscosity of recycled PET without reactor solid-phase reaction. In addition, CESA-Extend is easy to use. General PET chain extension must be pre-dried by heating under high vacuum for several hours, sometimes it can not control the branching reaction to produce gel, but now add CESA-Extend by twin screw extruder. There is no need for pre-drying under high vacuum, and only a small amount of gel will be produced.
According to the researchers, another role and advantage of Clariant's new chain extender is to improve the compatibility of recycled PET with other polyester, polycarbonate, and nylon compounds. According to reports, CESA-Extend can undergo polycondensation reaction with polycarbonate, nylon, polyoxymethylene, thermoplastic polyurethane, PBT and the above polymer blends, but it is most effective for PET, and the worst for nylon, can be associated with it. The reactive groups include amide groups, isocyanate groups, carboxylate groups, and hydroxyl groups.
